POSITION PURPOSE:
Under supervision of the Streets/Sewer/Water Foreman, the Streets, Sewer, and Water Sanitation Operator is primarily responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the City trash cans in the downtown, this includes the emptying and cleaning of trash cans and sidewalk areas. The Trash Operator would additionally be responsible for assisting in all other department work such as snow and ice removals, water main and sewer repairs, and other city maintenance items, as needed.
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Drives a small garbage truck or full-size pickup truck for trash collection in the downtown area and transports the collected garbage to the SOCRRA facility for dumping.
- Replaces trash bags and cleans city garbage cans in the downtown area.
- Assists the Parks Department with trash collection as needed.
- Cleans sidewalks using a leaf blower or broom.
- Cleans and maintains bus shelter areas, including cleaning glass and sweeping around benches.
- Acts as a fully functioning crew member in street maintenance and utility repair projects, using shovels and other hand tools to load, unload, tamp, and spread materials; may perform or assist in concrete and masonry repairs.
- Assists with water main, sewer, and road maintenance as needed.
- Participates in snow and ice activities, including salting and plowing as needed.
- Operates various loading equipment to load snow, leaves, and other materials for removal, and uses front-end loaders to transport materials to and from work sites.
- Plows snow from streets and parking lots using trucks equipped with front-mounted and/or underbody plows and salt spreaders.
- Performs miscellaneous light welding and cutting work.
- Assists in reading, repairing, and participating in cyclical maintenance of water meters.
- Assists with sign and parking meter operations and repairs.
- Assists with installation, repair, and maintenance of the city water and sewer system, including water services, drinking fountains, fire hydrants, water mains, stop boxes, and service valves.
- Drives large trucks (CDL required) to haul and spread sand, stone, asphalt, and other materials.
- Transports and installs barriers, warning devices, and miscellaneous equipment at work sites.
- Drives and operates a range of light-duty trucks, industrial tractors, and equipment as required for efficient department operations.
- Performs additional related responsibilities as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High School degree preferred
- CDL required
- Municipal experience preferred
- A combination of relevant work and education experience will be considered
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to lift over 50lbs
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
- Must be able to work outside in extreme conditions
- Must be available for shift on M-F from 3:45AM-12PM
