Job Purpose: To safely and efficiently transport waste products using a tipper trailer, walking floor trailer, or dump trailer from designated pickup facilities or sites to assigned consignee facilities or sites. The route includes hauling RNG (Renewed Natural Gas), this will require a hazmat & tanker endorsements.
Key Job Duties:
Vehicle Inspections:
- Perform proper inspections of the tractor, trailer, and all equipment accessories, including hydraulic lines and tarps, to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in proper working order.
- Report vehicle defects, incidents, traffic violations, or damage to all equipment.
Safe Transportation:
- Operate waste transport vehicles in compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure operational safety and compliance.
Load Management:
- Efficiently load and unload waste materials, ensuring proper handling to prevent spillage and damage.
- Verify load contents against manifests and ensure accurate documentation is maintained.
Operational Duties:
- Hook and unhook (couple and uncouple) tractor-tanker combinations, connecting or disconnecting air and electrical lines, auxiliary equipment, and manipulating fifth-wheel locks.
- Drive tractor-tanker combination equipment to transport waste materials in accordance with DOT regulations.
Loading and Unloading:
- Roll, unroll, and secure trailer tarps as needed.
- Clear waste residue from trailer bumpers and doors prior to transporting.
- Operate landfill tipper systems and other equipment for the unloading process, as applicable.
Route Planning:
- Plan and follow the most efficient routes to minimize transit time while adhering to traffic laws and regulations.
- Adjust routes as needed based on road conditions or instructions from management.
Customer Service:
- Maintain professional communication with dispatchers, customers, and site personnel.
- Address any customer inquiries or issues promptly and professionally.
Documentation:
- Complete all necessary paperwork, including delivery manifests, incident reports, and vehicle inspection logs.
- Maintain accurate records of driving hours and mileage as per DOT regulations.
Compliance:
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations regarding waste transportation and disposal.
- Participate in required training and safety meetings to stay updated on regulations and best practices.
Maintenance:
- Report any vehicle maintenance or repair needs to management immediately.
- Ensure vehicles are kept clean and organized, both inside and out.
Qualifications:
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements.
- Previous experience in waste transportation or similar driving roles preferred. Experience with low boy, flatbed, dry van, and/or waste trailer, dump trailer, walking floor.
- Strong understanding of DOT regulations and safety practices.
- Excellent communication skills and customer service orientation.
- Class A CDL with 12+ months tractor-trailer truck driving experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy loads as needed.
- Ability to operate vehicles for extended periods, often in varying weather conditions.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily outdoor work with exposure to varying environmental conditions.
- May require evening, weekend, or holiday shifts depending on operational needs.
Hauling: Waste disposal / Trash in a tipper trailer, walking floor trailer, or dump trailer from a designated pickup facility or site to the appropriate assigned facility or site.
