We are looking for a dependable, experienced Truck Driver Class A to be responsible for the safe and timely transportation of meat products between our production facility, distribution centers, and customer locations. This role plays a critical part in maintaining product quality, ensuring timely deliveries, and upholding food safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate company trucks to transport meat and related products to designated destinations.
- Secure cargo properly to balance the vehicle.
- Load and unload products when needed, ensuring proper handling and temperature control to maintain product integrity.
- Conduct pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any maintenance issues prior to driving.
- Verify delivery instructions, manifests, and documentation for accuracy and compliance.
- Obey and follow all applicable traffic laws and regulations, including truck driving-specific rules.
- Follow all DOT regulations, company safety procedures, and food handling protocols.
- Maintain accurate delivery logs, temperature records, and mileage reports.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, warehouse personnel, and customers regarding delivery schedules and any potential delays.
- Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of the truck, particularly in refrigerated units.
- Completion of regular safety training and other mandated driver screenings.
- Participation in educational and professional networking/development opportunities.
- Assist with warehouse duties as needed.
Job Qualifications
- Valid Vermont Commercial Driver’s License (CDL Class A required).
- Ability to drive in Canada required.
- Clean driving record and compliance with all DOT requirements.
- Minimum 3 years of commercial driving experience, preferably in refrigerated or food transport.
- Knowledge of food safety, cold chain management, and sanitation requirements.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks related to loading/unloading.
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and communication skills.
- Flexibility to work early mornings, nights, weekends, or holidays as needed.
- Pass DOT Physical Examination.
- Read and speak English fluently.
Work Environment
- Salary, regularly requires overtime (40+ hour position).
- Includes regular overnight stays in sleeper cab.
- Indoor and outdoor conditions, including time spent in refrigerated areas and various weather environments during loading and deliveries.
- Cold temperatures while handling meat products in refrigerated trailers or facilities.
- Frequent driving, sitting, lifting, and manual handling of products.
